Suspended Loads
When working around loads suspended in the air, follow these steps in order to avoid injuries.
Use Caution
- Never stand under a suspended load.
- Ensure no one goes underneath the load by roping off the area.
- Use load guide lines and ensure they are long enough to safely allow the handler to stay out form underneath the load.
Secure the Load
- Keep the manufacturer’s load recommendation available.
- Inspect all chains, slings, and hooks to ensure they are in proper working order, and properly sized.
- Ensure the device being used to lift the object is adequate for the weight of the load.
- Prepare all loads to be lifted correctly.
