What is a Pinch Point?
Any point where the possibility of a body part becoming stuck between a piece of moving equipment and a stationary object.
Staying Safe
- Always fully understand the operating manual before operating any piece of equipment.
- Inspect all machines visually before operating them.
- Ensure all covers and shields for pinch points are in place before operating any machinery.
- Always work with machines with pinch point guards.
- Always de-energize, lock out, and tag out all machinery before servicing them.
- Ensure you have proper hand clearance when carrying loads through openings or when setting loads down.
- Always wear proper protection for the job.
- Do not wear loosely fit clothing or jewelry when working around equipment.
- Pay close attention when you must place your hands, or any other body part underneath or between anything.
- When working with equipment such as a Wheel Loader, Compactor, or Articulated Truck, always use the articulation lock when working on the steering system or when the engine is running.
