Working with Mobile Equipment
When working around mobile equipment always:
- Do not leave machines unattended when anything is suspended in the air.
- Ensure to make eye contact with the operator of a machine before mounting equipment.
Operation
- Always inspect a vehicle or piece of equipment for safety defects before using it.
- Complete an operator’s report after each shift.
- Never operate a machine that is in unsafe condition.
- Do not operate a machine that is not equipped with a fire extinguisher.
- Always wear a seatbelt whenever operating a vehicle or piece of equipment.
- Always maintain control by focusing on the task at hand and being courteous.
Passengers
- Do not allow anyone to ride on the side of your vehicle or piece of equipment.
- Never allow people to ride in front-end loader buckets, or allow anyone to perform work from an unsupported bucket.
Traffic
- Always observer and follow all speed limits and traffic patterns on entrance and haulage roads.
- If caught in bad weather conditions, reduce speed.
- Always yield to large trucks and loaders, especially when carrying a load.
- Ensure other drivers and operators are aware of you.
- Do not follow equipment too closely.
- Do not park your vehicle in a high traffic or congested area.
